How Do Braces Work

How Braces Work

More than 4 million people in the United States are currently wearing braces, but how do braces! Though they’re very common, how many people actually know how braces work?

How Do Braces Work?

A successful braces treatment can depend on many factors and treatment is not the same for everyone. Braces work by using an appliance made of brackets, bands, and wires. The appliance gently puts pressure on the teeth to gradually move them into the correct position. This is done over time to reduce the pain and discomfort of the teeth moving.

Braces Process

To begin your braces journey the first step is placing brackets on your teeth. At Bubon Orthodontics, we have 5 kinds of brackets and even offer brackets in cool shapes! The brackets are glued to your teeth to ensure they stay for the duration of your treatment. Once secured on your teeth, the brackets are connected together by wire to help apply pressure to your teeth to ensure safe and proper movement.

When this pressure is put on the teeth, it is gently changing the structure of your bones! Don’t worry, it’s tiny cells in your body that remove small amounts of bone on one side, and bone builds up on the other side.

While building up your bones and adjusting the alignment of your teeth is a slow process, wearing your rubber bands, avoiding sticky, chewy, or hard foods, and keeping your teeth clean can help move your treatment along quicker.

Once your experienced doctor has determined your teeth are in the correct position, your braces and any other appliances used throughout your treatment will be removed. We will then fit you for your Vivera retainer so your beautiful smile will stay put and you can enjoy your perfect smile for a lifetime!
