One Of Four Million

As we know, braces are a very popular option for straightening teeth. Currently, there are four million people that have braces. Within that, about one million of those people are adults over the age of 18.

NASA Invented The Wire Currently Used For Braces

In 1959 NASA developed a metal alloy called nickel-titanium. This was a major improvement for orthodontics as it is perfect for making the thin, highly flexible wire that is best used for braces. Because the wire is highly flexible, it works well for braces to help maintain their shape after being bent and attached to the teeth.

Braces are almost 300 years old

The first set of braces were made in 1728 by French physician Pierre Fauchard. While they didn’t look like the braces we know today, they still produced the same result. The braces consisted of a flat piece of metal material that were connected to the teeth by a thread!
